Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is a large suburb town located in Charleston County. It is the fourth largest municipality in South Carolina and the fourth largest in the Low Country. Located near the Cooper River, Mt. Pleasant was originally inhabited by the Sewee Native Americans. In the early 18th century, white settlers began to colonize the area. The city grew rapidly after its incorporation, and now includes the villages of Greenwich and Lucasville. It is a charming and historic community with a vibrant history.

Mount Pleasant is also home to the historic Pitt Street Bridge. This bridge dates back to the 1860s and has been by the town's side through thick and thin. It was originally built to connect Mt. Scanlonville, a former African-American community, is now a residential neighborhood in Mount Pleasant. The area was annexed by the city of Charleston. Scanlonville was named for Robert Scanlon, a freedman carpenter who was president of the Charleston Land Company. The company pooled $10 per share to purchase large tracts of land in the area. The land was divided up into smaller lots.

The city's population is composed of both males and females. There are 19.1% of children under the age of 18 living in the city. There are also many older adults, and the median age is 36. Its population is comprised of two to three people per household. In addition, males outnumber females in the city by 91.

There is a wide variety of architecture in Mt. Pleasant, with many original homes still standing. Many homes have been restored and are available for purchase. Several of these homes are close to the Mount Pleasant Towne Center and I-526.
