Jeremy-Continuing the Journey

By Beth

It is very tough to keep a strict gluten free casein free diet, especially when you are six. This becomes even more challenging when there are chocolate chip cookies in the pantry, and this is where Jeremy had his latest set back. Never in a million years could I ever imagine a cookie could cause such awful side effects. I discovered Jeremy had eaten something when his cheeks turned red and were covered in small bumps. The next morning he was jumping on my bed. For several days, Jeremy was angry and easily aggravated. He also had difficulty getting his words out and began to stutter, but after a week he is back on track.

Jeremy has continued on the zinc and is now eating fruit. Before he would only eat bananas and applesauce, but he has recently been eating strawberries, grapes, peaches, and plums. He has always disliked cucumbers, but he tried them again and said that now he likes them (a good thing since we have a ton growing in the backyard).

Many other changes have come since Jeremy began his supplemental nutrition plan. Over the past two years, cutting hair has been impossible. Jeremy would scream like he was being tortured, but over the weekend he asked to get his hair cut. Surprisingly he sat very still and seemed to be relaxed. Jeremy is also getting better communicating with others. He is now beginning to describe things he has seen or heard, instead of repeating everything word for word. Before it was impossible to know what Jeremy was talking about unless you were with him when it originally happened. He is also working hard on his self control, but he still has tremendous difficulties when he becomes frustrated.

Jeremy’s aggression is now the main concern. Tiffany suggested using epson salt baths when Jeremy starts acting up. We have tried a few and he seems instantly calmer, but the baths are not always convenient. We met with Tiffany again today and we will be adding new supplements in little by little. Jeremy will also start drinking Kangen water tomorrow. We hope to have even greater success in the days or weeks to come.
