Jeremy’s Journey
Posted by: | CommentsIt has been exactly one week since Jeremy started drinking the Kangen Water. I haven’t noticed any differences directly related to drinking the water, but it is still early. The biggest challenge he has is drinking just the water. He has become very sneaky. I try to keep a cup ready for him to drink when he becomes thirsty and then today I found that someone had watered my plant. After blaming his sister Jeremy admitted to dumping his cup of water on the plant. (Maybe it will help it grow!) He also tries to drink his sister’s juice if she leaves it unattended and he was caught pouring his own very large cup of juice. We have been trying to reduce his sugar intake over the last couple of weeks so he hadn’t been drinking much juice before he started the water, but he isn’t ready to let it go completely. Hopefully this too will improve with time.
Jeremy has also started to eat a couple new foods. Last night he asked if he could have some tomatoes in his salad, which he never wanted on his plate before. He ate them all! And today I gave Jeremy some carrots for a snack and he ate them all. Even when he tried them months ago with lots of ranch dressing he would spit them out. What a wonderful suprise!
Jeremy continues to improve in other areas as well. He is more helpful around the house and actually made his bed by himself over the weekend. It was far from perfect, but I was still thrilled! His attention span seems to lengthen daily and he sits to practice his sight words daily without a struggle. As for his speech, it is becoming more of his own. Of course he still uses a lot of echolalia, but most of what he is saying is his original views of the world around him. Jeremy is becoming more in control of his voice and his actions. When he gets out of control he is able to quickly turn himself back around and get back on track.
Over the last week I have noticed that Jeremy’s behavior is worse when he first wakes in the morning and then improves a couple hours later. I think the might be caused by the supplements he takes in the morning, and once they get in his system they calm him down. I don’t know if this is what is really going on, but it is possible.
Today Jeremy started taking an additional dose of zinc before bed. I believe the zinc has helped him to like all of the new foods and can’t wait to see how much more he will improve. Jeremy will continue drinking the Kangen Water and we are waiting anxiously to see what impact it may have. Maybe this is the key!
Jeremy’s Road to Recovery-Day 3 Kangen Water
Posted by: | CommentsJeremy has been drinking the Kangen Water for three days now. The biggest challenge so far is getting him to drink enough. He would rather drink juice. I tried the water myself and I think it tastes great. There is no funny taste and it doesn’t make you feel bloated when you drink too much. Hopefully Jeremy will learn to love it. It is too early to notice any changes related to the water, but we will just have to wait and see if this will make a difference.
Overall, Jeremy’s progress is slow, but steady. He is gradually getting calmer and his angry outburst seem to be getting shorter. I have also noticed a big change in his attitude when it comes to doing something he dislikes. The last few times we have sat down to practice his sight words he sits until we go through them all. Before starting the supplements, Jeremy would refuse and he would put up a fight when asked to do any type of work. However, Jeremy still has trouble staying focused, but we are happy with his success so far. Jeremy has also been helping more around the house and now seems to enjoy helping pick up toys and putting away laundry. (He has recently learned how to put clothes on hangers, something he never wanted to try before.)
At this time I don’t know what the future holds for Jeremy. I hope for miracles, but I am always grateful for the every achievement he makes. Everyday he moves forward and I am glad we chose to follow a natural path to good health.
Jeremy-Continuing the Journey
Posted by: | CommentsIt is very tough to keep a strict gluten free casein free diet, especially when you are six. This becomes even more challenging when there are chocolate chip cookies in the pantry, and this is where Jeremy had his latest set back. Never in a million years could I ever imagine a cookie could cause such awful side effects. I discovered Jeremy had eaten something when his cheeks turned red and were covered in small bumps. The next morning he was jumping on my bed. For several days, Jeremy was angry and easily aggravated. He also had difficulty getting his words out and began to stutter, but after a week he is back on track.
Jeremy has continued on the zinc and is now eating fruit. Before he would only eat bananas and applesauce, but he has recently been eating strawberries, grapes, peaches, and plums. He has always disliked cucumbers, but he tried them again and said that now he likes them (a good thing since we have a ton growing in the backyard).
Many other changes have come since Jeremy began his supplemental nutrition plan. Over the past two years, cutting hair has been impossible. Jeremy would scream like he was being tortured, but over the weekend he asked to get his hair cut. Surprisingly he sat very still and seemed to be relaxed. Jeremy is also getting better communicating with others. He is now beginning to describe things he has seen or heard, instead of repeating everything word for word. Before it was impossible to know what Jeremy was talking about unless you were with him when it originally happened. He is also working hard on his self control, but he still has tremendous difficulties when he becomes frustrated.
Jeremy’s aggression is now the main concern. Tiffany suggested using epson salt baths when Jeremy starts acting up. We have tried a few and he seems instantly calmer, but the baths are not always convenient. We met with Tiffany again today and we will be adding new supplements in little by little. Jeremy will also start drinking Kangen water tomorrow. We hope to have even greater success in the days or weeks to come.
Jeremy’s Road to Recovery
Posted by: | CommentsMy son Jeremy is 6 years old, but he is not like the other children his age. Jeremy has always had trouble with his speech and as he grows older he falls further behind his peers developmentally. Last year he was diagnosed with ADHD and a sensory integration disorder. Jeremy was put on stimulant medication when his behavior became out of control. Shortly after starting medication, Jeremy started having terrible side effects. He began stuttering and he turned into a zombie for several hours after taking his medicine. When I expressed my concerns with the doctor he told me this was normal and it meant the medicine was working. I took Jeremy off the medication immediately and started searching for a natural way to help my son.
In March I decided to put Jeremy on the gluten free casein free diet and I looked on the internet to find out as much as I could. Jeremy went gluten free first and his stuttering started to improve. A few weeks later I removed casein from his diet and I was a believer. Jeremy started waking up in a good mood (previously he woke up angry everyday), his speech started improving, and he was more energetic. Despite his progress, Jeremy was still struggling in school: he was easily frustrated, unable to stay focused, and was having difficulty socializing with his peers.
When school let out for the summer, I decided to seek help from someone with experience and I scheduled a consultation with Tiffany Jackson. A nutritional supplementation plan was created for Jeremy. The first part of the plan involved starting Jeremy on a probiotic to contol any overgrowth of bad bacteria and reduce his sugar intake (sugar feeds the bad bacteria). I am having trouble with the no sugar thing and I wasn’t aware of how much sugar he actually consumes, but we are working on finding new things to eat. Since starting probiotics, Jeremy has become much calmer and is no longer avoiding eye contact. His speech is also better than ever before (I just wish we could get past the echolalia). The next part of the plan is to add zinc picolinate. He has just started and I am hoping this will help with his appetite.
So far we are having amazing results, but we still have a long road ahead of us. Jeremy struggles with aggression, impulsiveness, and he has a long way before he catches up with his peers. Jeremy was also just diagnosed with PDD-NOS in addition to everything else. Once again we were advised to put Jeremy on medication, but for now we will continue to work on healing him naturally.
