Slow and Steady
Posted by: | CommentsThis seem to be Jeremy’s new motto. From his special diet and supplements to his school work, everything takes time.
I am absolutely amazed by the changes I have noticed in Jeremy lately. His speech is so much better than it was just a few months ago. Jeremy goes on and on and he rarely has to stop to get his thoughts together. Everything just seems to be coming out. I used to have to stop what I was doing to listen and wait for Jeremy to tell me what he was thinking about, but this morning I realized I no longer have to stop and listen. Everything is so much clearer. Jeremy’s sentences are back to back and they are his own original thoughts. Jeremy is also sharing information about what happens at school, and he can even tell me about stories they read. The echolalia is slowly decreasing, but it is not gone and maybe it will never go completely away.
Jeremy is also much calmer than he has ever been. He is no longer bouncing off the walls. Homework is usually a breeze. Jeremy seems to understand what he is being asked to do, but he still gets frustrated at times. Jeremy is getting much better at writing, but he will try to rush through his work. I do often erase his sloppy letters and we start over, together we say “slow and steady wins the race.” I am so proud of Jeremy’s success and I do know this is just the beginning.

CoQ10- Are You Deficient?
Posted by: | CommentsCoQ10 by itself is also known as ubiquinone. To benefit from the form of the nutrient needed to produce cellular energy and help you reduce the typical signs of aging, your body must convert the ubiquinone to ubiquinol.
Ubiquinol exists everywhere there is life… it’s ubiquitous!
The challenge you face as you age is this — your body levels of CoQ10 continue to diminish.
In addition, your capability to convert Co Q10 to ubiquinol also declines. It becomes more and more difficult for you to produce the ubiquinol you need due to:
- Increased metabolic demand
- Oxidative stress
- Insufficient dietary Co Q10 intake
- Deficiency of factors required for biosynthesis and ubiquinol conversion
- Potential effects from illness and disease
- Age-related changes in your genes
- And any combination of these factors
Some reports say your Co Q10 level decline becomes apparent as early as your 20′s.
Give Up On Bottled Water
Posted by: | CommentsWe’ve all probably heard at some point in time that plastic water bottles are bad for us. The reason? They’ve shown themselves to be a huge waste of energy, resources, and water.
Still not convinced? Check out some of these statistics:
- This year more than 25 billion single use plastic water bottles will be sold in the United States alone and more than 80 percent of those will end up being disposed of rather than being recycled (that’s 20 billion bottles to the landfill Virginia!).
- Over 1.5 million barrels of oil were used to make the plastic bottles consumed in the US last year–and that doesn’t include the petroleum used to transport them.To put that in perspective, that’s enough petroleum to power 100,000 automobiles for a year!Over 1.5 million barrels of oil were used to make the plastic bottles consumed in the US last year–and that doesn’t include the petroleum used to transport them.To put that in perspective, that’s enough petroleum to power 100,000 automobiles for a year!
- Drinking out of bottled water actually wastes water, using up to five times as much, in a world where many people have inadequate amounts of drinking water.
Rise in ADHD Diagnosis
Posted by: | CommentsWhat Causes ADHD?
There are a number of theories to explain the rise in ADHD diagnoses, including:
- Sugars and Grains. Children who consume highly processed foods loaded with high fructose corn syrup and fruit juices tend to have a higher rate and severity of these symptoms. While organic whole grains are superior to processed ones, many children with ADHD do not respond well to most grains, especially wheat.
- Genetic factors — Some scientists are now aiming their research at genes that may make a person more susceptible to this disorder.
- Environmental toxins — A 2006 study found that a mother’s use of cigarettes, alcohol, or other drugs during pregnancy could increase the risk for ADHD.
- Allergic reactions – Permanent press or stain-resistant products also contain chemicals that can initiate ADHD-like reactions in sensitive individuals.
- Processed food additives – Certain food dyes and other additives may cause ADHD-like symptoms. These chemicals have a particularly pernicious synergy if they are combined with sugars such as fructose.
- Fluoridated waterncreased number of childhood vaccinations – One 2007 survey found a strong correlation between rates of neurological disorders, such as ADHD, and childhood vaccinations. Vaccine adjuvants have also been associated with ADHD-type neurological problems.
- Increased rates of birth interventions. This can result in birth trauma and lack of oxygen in the newborn, which significantly increases the risk of developmental delay.
